About Oscar Temaru
Oscar Manutahi Temaru is a Tahitian politician. He has been the president of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France, on five occasions: in 2004, from 2005 to 2006, from 2007 to 2008, in 2009, and from 2011 to 2013. He has also been mayor of Faʻaʻā since 1983. As a compromise, by-elections were set for February 13, 2005 for certain seats, which Temaru's coalition won. Gaston Tong Sang won the presidential election on December 26. In 2004 the Union for Democracy Coalition won 27 of the 57 seats.
