About Ethelwynn Trewavas
Ethelwynn Trewavas was an ichthyologist at the British Museum. She was known for her work on the families Cichlidae and Sciaenidae. She worked with Charles Tate Regan, another ichthyologist and taxonomist. Trewavas was awarded the Linnean Medal of the Linnean Society of London in 1968, and elected as a Fellow (honoris causa) of the society in 1991. Many fellow ichthyologists honoured Trewavas by naming newly discovered species after her. She was best known for her work describing African Rift lake cichlids, but she published extensively on other groups as well.
