About John DeWitt (athlete)
John Riegel DeWitt was an American athlete. He played college football for Princeton from 1901 to 1903 and was selected as an All-American in 1902 and 1903. He also competed in the hammer throw, setting the world record in 1903 and winning the silver medal at the 1904 Summer Olympics. At kicking goals from the field he has probably never had an equal." He led the 1903 team to an 11–0 record, outscoring opponents 259 to 5. He set a record in 1903 with a throw of 168 feet and four inches.
