He has previously played in MLB for the Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Athletics and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. In 2013, McGough split the season between the Double-A Jacksonville Suns and the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs, posting a 4–4 record and 2.82 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 67.0 innings of work.
