About Guy Davenport

Guy Mattison Davenport (November 23, 1927 – January 4, 2005) was an American writer, translator, illustrator, painter, intellectual, and teacher. Davenport said that he became a reader only at 10, with a neighbor’s gift of one of the Tarzan series. Davenport was a Rhodes Scholar at Merton College, Oxford, from 1948 to 1950.
