About Hauwa Ibrahim
Hauwa Ibrahim is a Nigerian human rights lawyer who won the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize in 2005. Ibrahim first gained international attention in the year 2003 when she won a case that defending a Nigerian woman who was convicted of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning on Sharia law. One of the first cases that caught Ibrahim's attention was that of Bariya, a thirteen-year-old girl who had a disability.
