Austin Scott Barnes (born December 28, 1989) is an American professional baseball catcher in the New York Mets organization. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils. Barnes was selected by the Florida Marlins in the eighth round of the 2011 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 2015 and helped the team win the 2020 and 2024 World Series. As a shortstop in Little League Baseball, Barnes' nickname was "Hoover", given for his ability to field ground balls.
