About Dieter Baumann
Dieter Baumann (German pronunciation: [ˈdiːtɐ ˈbaʊ̯ˌman],; born 9 February 1965) is a German former athlete and 5000 m Olympic champion at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He also won the silver medal in the same event (5000 m) at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1999, Baumann tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug nandrolone and received a two-year suspension from athletic competition. In early 1992, Baumann narrowly missed the 3000 m world indoor record. The 5000 m final at Seoul was won by John Ngugi from Kenya who broke away from the field early in the race.
