About Rezső Nyers
Rezső Nyers (Hungarian: [ˈrɛʒøː ˈɲɛrʃ]; 21 March 1923 – 22 June 2018) was a Hungarian politician and economist who served as President of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (MSZMP) for a few months in 1989. As such, he was the last leader of the People's Republic of Hungary. He then became the first leader of the party's successor Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) from 1989 to 1990, and also served as Minister of Finance from 1960 to 1962. At its final congress on 7 October 1989, the MSZMP voted to disband and refound itself as the Hungarian Socialist Party, with Nyers as its first chairman.
