About Igor Akinfeev

Igor Vladimirovich Akinfeev (Russian: Игорь Владимирович Акинфеев, IPA: [ˈiɡərʲ vlɐˈdʲimʲɪrəvʲɪtɕ ɐkʲɪnˈfʲe(j)ɪf]; born 8 April 1986) is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper and captains Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow. A one-club man, he has represented CSKA Moscow since making his senior debut in 2003 and holds the records for the most appearances in the Russian top division as well as the most clean sheets in Russian football. With CSKA, Akinfeev has won six Russian Premier League titles, eight Russian Cups, and the 2004-05 UEFA Cup. He represented Russia from 2004 to 2018, earning 111 caps, and was selected for four UEFA European Championships and two FIFA World Cups. In 2017, he was named captain of the Russian squad, following the retirement of Vasili Berezutski. He helped Russia reach the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2008 and the quarter-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He has won six Russian Premier League titles and eight Russian Cups, as well as the UEFA Cup in 2005. He is a record holder for most games played in the Russian top-level league at 613 (as of 14 March 2026). As a member of the junior CSKA Moscow team, he won the Russian Junior Championship in 2002. He broke into the starting line-up at the age of 17 in 2003, winning the club's first Russian Premier League in the same season.
