Giovannino Oliviero Giuseppe Guareschi was an Italian journalist, cartoonist and humorist whose best known creation is the priest Don Camillo. After the war, Guareschi returned to Italy and in 1945 founded a monarchist weekly satirical magazine, Candido. Guareschi was born into a middle-class family in Fontanelle di Roccabianca, in the province of Parma, in 1908.
