About Jacques Roumain

Jacques Roumain Encarnación was a Haitian writer, politician, and Marxist. He is considered one of the most prominent figures in Haitian literature. Langston Hughes translated some of Roumain's works, including Gouverneurs de la Rosée, which was also adapted to film. Roumain created some of the most colorful, dynamic, and moving poetry of his generation. Upon returning, he founded the Office of Ethnology.
