About Erik Erikson

Erik Homburger Erikson was a German-American child psychoanalyst and visual artist known for his theory on psychosocial development of human beings. He coined the phrase identity crisis. Erikson won a Pulitzer Prize and a US National Book Award in category Philosophy and Religion for Gandhi's Truth (1969), which focused more on his theory as applied to later phases in the life cycle. Another famous Stockbridge resident, Norman Rockwell, became Erikson's patient and friend. Eventually, Erik realized he would never become a full-time artist and returned to Karlsruhe and became an art teacher.
