George Hees, Canadian football player and politician (died 1996) When the PCs under Diefenbaker won government in 1957, Hees was named Minister of Transport, and oversaw the opening of the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the new Halifax International Airport. As a professional football player he was a star linebacker with the Toronto Argonauts team that won the 1938 Grey Cup. While serving during the Second World War, he played in the famed Tea Bowl for the Canadian Army football team against American Army team at White City Stadium in London on February 13, 1944; the Canadians won 16-6.
