Vice-Admiral Alfred Francis Blakeney Carpenter, VC was a Royal Navy officer who was selected by his fellow officers and men to receive the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He attended Bedales School founded by his Uncle Edward Carpenter's close friend John Haden Badley. For his conduct during this action he was awarded the VC: For most conspicuous gallantry.
