About Anthony Mason (judge)
Sir Anthony Frank Mason is an Australian judge who served as the ninth Chief Justice of Australia, in office from 1987 to 1995. He was first appointed to the High Court in 1972, having previously served on the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He had also served as a non-permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong from 1997 to 2015. After leaving the military, Mason enrolled at the University of Sydney to study arts and law, graduating with first-class honours. He was the first person to serve as solicitor-general in a standalone capacity, as the office had previously been held by the secretary of the Attorney-General's Department.
