About Art Kane
Art Kane was an American fashion and music photographer active from the 1950s through the early 1990s. He created many portraits of contemporary musicians, including Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Sonny and Cher, Aretha Franklin, Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, and The Who. In 1989, the Art Kane Photo Workshops were created in Cape May, New Jersey. At age 26, he became the art director for Seventeen magazine, one of the youngest art directors of a major publication. I want to interpret the human scene rather than simply record it." Kane created and directed the film A Time to Play, a unique three-screen film commissioned by the US Information Agency that was shown in the US Pavilion at Expo '67.
