As a photographer and movie maker, Cameron won media and theater arts awards. Cameron co-founded the Gay American Indians (GAI), in 1975 with Randy Burns, a Northern Paiute. She received the Harvey Milk Award for Community Service in 1992 and the following year, she was the first recipient of the Bay Area Career Women Community Service Award.
