About Doris Matsui
Doris Kazue Matsui ( mat-SOO-ee; née Okada; Japanese: 松井 佳寿恵, September 25, 1944) is an American politician who has served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from California's 7th congressional district since 2005. She succeeded her husband, Bob Matsui. The district, numbered as the 5th from 2005 to 2013 and the 6th from 2013 to 2023, is based in Sacramento. She is a member of the House Energy and Commerce committee, where she serves as ranking member of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee. Before her time in Congress, Matsui worked as a government affairs consultant and served as Deputy Assistant to the President in the Clinton Administration, where she worked with President Clinton to create the first White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in 1999. Press reports said that Matsui won the election before the polls opened, as most votes in the election were absentee ballots, which she won overwhelmingly.
