About Ed Bearss

Edwin Cole Bearss was a historian of the American Civil War, tour guide, and United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II. In February 2005, Bearss was awarded an honorary degree from Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois; Gettysburg College did the same in 2010. Edwin Cole Bearss: History's Pied Piper (PDF) (first ed.). He prepared historical studies for the Interior Department agency and founded the Mississippi Civil War Roundtable. The NPS awarded him the unique title of National Park Service Historian Emeritus.
