About Ellis Clarke

Sir Ellis Emmanuel Innocent Clarke (28 December 1917 – 30 December 2010) was the first President of Trinidad and Tobago and last Governor-General. He was one of the main architects of Trinidad and Tobago's 1962 Independence constitution. When Trinidad and Tobago became a republic in 1976, Clarke was unanimously elected the country's first President by the electoral college, which comprised the elected. Ellis Clarke attended Saint Mary's College in Port of Spain, winning an Island Scholarship in Mathematics in 1938.
