About J. B. Lightfoot

Joseph Barber Lightfoot, known as J. B. Lightfoot, was an English theologian and Bishop of Durham. Marshall created a new religious order within the church based on Lightfoot's discussion of the Third Order of Saint Francis who had historically consisted of men and women who did not live in monasteries or wear cowls. The first of the three volume set covers the Acts of the Apostles, the second is a commentary on the Gospel of John and the third is on the Second Epistle to the Corinthians and the First Epistle of Peter. In 1875, Lightfoot became Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity in succession to William Selwyn.
