Lia Manoliu was a Romanian discus thrower who won one gold and two bronze Olympic medals. She was the first track and field athlete to compete at six Olympics (1952–1972). Lia Manoliu (Romanian pronunciation:; 25 April 1932 – 9 January 1998) was a Romanian discus thrower who won one gold and two bronze Olympic medals. Manoliu won the British WAAA Championships title in the discus throw event at the 1963 WAAA Championships. Two years later she became the first Romanian woman to throw the disc over 40 m (41.44 m, 22 May 1950).
