About Michael Nazir-Ali
Michael James Nazir-Ali is a Pakistani-born British Catholic priest and former Anglican bishop. He served as the 106th Bishop of Rochester from 1994 to 2009 and, before that, as Bishop of Raiwind in Pakistan. He is currently the director of the Oxford Centre for Training, Research, Advocacy and Dialogue. At first Nazir-Ali supported the ordination of women as priests in the Church of England. In 2004 he was awarded an honorary doctor of letters degree by Westminster College, Pennsylvania, and in 2005 the Lambeth DD. He became the first Bishop of Raiwind in West Punjab (1984–86), at the time he was the youngest bishop in the Anglican Communion. He is also a founding member of the Dialogue of Scholars founded after the 9/11 attacks.
