Richard Krautheimer was a German art historian, architectural historian, Baroque scholar, and Byzantinist. Krautheimer fought in the First World War as an enlisted soldier in the German army (1916–18). Krautheimer was also one of the co-founders of the Census research project, which was founded in 1946 as a cooperation between the Warburg Institute and the Institute of Fine Arts.
