About Roberto Tucci

Roberto Tucci, SJ was an Italian Catholic theologian, journalist, and Jesuit priest. He played an important role at the Second Vatican Council and organized foreign trips taken by Pope John Paul II. He was made a cardinal in 2001, and continued to prefer being addressed as "Padre Tucci". He founded the journal Digest religioso (later renamed Rassegna di Teologia). The French government awarded him the Légion d'honneur in 1976 and he was named Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres in 2009. He was awarded an honorary doctor of law degree by the University of Notre Dame in 1966.
