Sorana Mihaela Cîrstea (Romanian pronunciation: [soˈrana ˈkɨrste̯a]; born 7 April 1990) is a Romanian professional tennis player. At 36 years and 3 months, she reached a career-high ranking of world No. 17, on 13 July 2026, becoming the oldest player to reach the top 20 in the WTA singles rankings. Her best results at the majors are quarterfinals at the 2009 and 2026 French Opens, and the 2023 US Open. She is currently the No. 1 Romanian player in singles. Her best doubles ranking is No. 35, achieved in March 2009. Cîrstea has won four WTA Tour singles and seven doubles titles. Her best achievements include reaching a WTA 1000 final in singles at the 2013 Rogers Cup and winning the 2025 Madrid Open doubles title with Anna Kalinskaya. Cîrstea has reached the semifinals of a further three WTA 1000 events in singles. Cîrstea has 25 career wins over top ten players. On 18 May 2026, she became the oldest player in WTA history to break into the world's top 20 for the first time, at the age of 36. In October 2008, Cîrstea won her first WTA title in Tashkent by defeating fourth seed and world No. 64, Sabine Lisicki, in three sets. On the WTA Tour, she has won four singles and six doubles titles. She was the first Romanian to reach a WTA Tour final since Ruxandra Dragomir in June 2000. In doubles, her career-best ranking is No. 35, which she reached on 9 March 2009.
