Vernon A. Carey Jr. is an American professional basketball player for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils. He finished his high school career at NSU University School as a five-star recruit and among the top-ranked players in the 2019 class. As a sophomore, Carey averaged 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while leading his team to a 20–7 record and a Florida district state championship. During his freshman season, he averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while leading the Sharks to a 15–9 overall record. On November 12, Carey recorded his first double-double of the season scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 105–54 win against Central Arkansas. At the conclusion of the regular season, Carey was named ACC Freshman of the Year and was selected to the First Team All-ACC.
